I cleaned it thoroughly and managed to put the whole mouse back together and it all works fine now ! - mind that while the ball is wet it behaves differently from dry state.
- Then I repeated the above on clean paper and more stuff came out.
- Took it back to apple @ watford, got a replacement.

HELP! This worked, however: Put a few drops of the "Goo-Gone" commercial solvent on a paper towel. Don't roll over any of that loosened gunk. Check This Out I have gone to System Preferences and "Mouse Scroll" box is checked, have restarted and rebooted but still doesn't work.
