They're poor keyboards for people who actually need to, you know, type. Pete…. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. After diddling away several hours, trying and failing at every other published solution, yours worked in an instant.

Does anyone actually know how to reset these devices? Keyboard was immediately recognized. Are you getting incorrect characters, symbols or non-functional keys when using the keyboard?
There are some generic tips that might point you in the right direction. You rock! It would be very difficult, at best, to allow it to connect and then go to each computer to see if it is the offending one. Re-pairing it with macbook pro makes me conclude that there does not seem to be problems with (fresh) batteries, but something else is preventing it from pairing with ipad. They all use similar frequencies, so another device could be causing the keyboard and mouse to loose their connection with the iMac. I meant that Apple keyboards are good at being silent, but there are others which are far more silent :) I think it depends on what you are used to. The keyboards do seem to remember something about the last paired machine, which only may be to allow it to make a quicker connection when that machine starts announces its presence.
