Whilst this article is titled ‘how to reset…' I'm not intending to confirm that there is some hidden reset function that Apple forgot to mention. otherwise i guess this fix is more or less risk-free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXrKzzMU... Make sure you are still holding the power button down. They seriously suck for that.

When you put the white plastic back in place it is CRITICAL that you have it aligned exactly perfectly or it won't work at all. I agree, first picture of step 2 is misleading.

This worked. Mac Wireless Keyboard Not Working If you follow these instructions, after rebooting you will be asked to setup the Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse as if you were starting up a new Mac. Connected beautifully once I followed your clear instructions.

New keyboards and trackpads were released in late 2015 which do not have removable batteries. Worked great!

Unfortunately you do need to identify any other paired machines, as you can't tell the keyboard to forget the pairing that is stored on the old machine. You can do this by going to the Bluetooth widget at the top of the screen. So just to clarify, the trick is to continually HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON. Maybe if we type the word ‘reset' 3 times and turn it upside down.
