In Rock Band, I didn't get any sound, so I rebooted and still no sound. I think it was only 2.0, despite what it said on-screen, since dialogue was almost non-existent (I had to turn it up to around -30, when usually "loud" is in the solution SolvedHelp needed for hooking up blue ray, dvd, surround sound, fire tv, and xbox 360. Xbox 360 Audio Output
The only options available to me on the receiver were switching between DD and Stereo. Anyone have any idea/personal experience with Netflix lately? For some reason the Xbox keeps resetting to stereo output even though you specify 5.1 in the prefs. He thanked the person for responding and then pointed out the information missed. Even going straight to the dashboard give me no beep sounds when I press the buttons unless I go to the settings and disable the 5.1 audio. I turn on my system (XBox 360, Receiver, etc.) simultaneously My Pioneer Elite AVR detects the XBox output as "STEREO" (even though the settings on the XBox are "Dolby Digital") I Sometimes it detects the audio signal as stereo, other times as 5.1. For me it only works if I power on in this order----AVR, TV, Xbox 360.

Judging from other posters' comments above, this sounds like it could be a pretty common issue, but also an under-recognized and under-reported one since it's fairly easy to miss. They're not needed if using the optical audio output. Xbox 360 Audio Output HDMI receivers are only just now becoming standard and too many are still just working as switches. Sound was horrible going from HDMI into the TV, out to the receiver via optical. Connect one end of the digital audio cable to the TOSLINK port on the A/V cable. We won't give up and neither should you. As for the 360's HDMI cable, I ran into something similar a few weeks ago. Using a standard stereo audio cable recommended by the manufacturer of your TV, connect one end of the cable to the output port on your TV.
Or sometimes it'll work on boot up. I couldn't get 5.1 surround, and mono was barely working.
